How to turn a pallet board into a coffee table

coffee tableHow to Turn a Pallet board into a coffee table in these quick and super easy steps! This project costed me around $25 no joke! YES $25!!

Step 1.

pallet board rawFind yourself a raw pallet board. You can purchase these at Home depot but if your trying to be cost effective than I suggest dumpster diving or just looking around your town for one. Yes I have dumpster dived and theres no shame in my game when creating beautiful handmade furniture!! All though this pallet I was lucky enough to find laying out in front of a warehouse.

Step 2.

cut boardsTake your pallet board to home depot or local hardware store and have them cut down some pretty fresh oak boards equal in size to your pallet you have chosen. They should be helpful there and not give you any grief when doing this. Also have them cut 4 thick oak boards for the legs of your table. I had my legs cut to 16 inches tall…your length might vary depending on the height of your couches. While you’re there you should also purchase some wood glue and either cheese cloth or a paint brush as you will need these things later.

Step 3.

stain1Choose your stain you want for your coffee table. I chose a pretty dark walnut. I was going for a rustic feel and I think this stain fits the job pretty nicely.

Step 4.

stainStain your oak board pieces and your entire pallet board! One suggestion I have is to hammer out any nails that might be sticking out of your pallet. Also I sanded my pallet down so it has a nice and smooth finish. You can use a cheese cloth to stain or any old rag. I used a paint brush but honestly I wish I used a cheese cloth. You’re than going to want to use a clear protective coat on everything once you have stained it to protect it.

Step 5.

legsAfter you have stained the entire table…As you can see I did not stain the bottom of my table. It was too time consuming and I kind of liked the contrast. Glue your oak boards to the top of the pallet and glue your legs on. You can use any type of heavy duty wood glue. I recommend using elmers wood glue, it worked great for me. Your going to want to let all of this dry and rest for at least 24 hours too.

ALL DONE! TIME TO ENJOY AND DECORATE YOUR CHEAP DIY BUT BEAUTIFUL RUSTIC COFFEE TABLE! IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SEND ME AN EMAIL. SHARE THIS TO PINTERST AND FACEBOOK AND REMEMBER TO TELL THEM WHO TAUGHT YOU!
