SIMPLIFYING A STYLED SHELF

Hey guys! Happy Wednesday….I wanted to share a few easy ways to style a shelf and keep it fresh. Bare with me on the post I’m keeping it short with words and sweet with pictures.

A couple of the things I like to keep in mind when styling a shelf are these things
TEXTURE
SIZE
ODD NUMBERS

So let me explain these things….
When styling something you don’t want to over do it with the same thing. For instance….

I have one family photo on the top shelf…lots of people will like to maybe just put family photos on the same shelf. You’ve lost the texture, different eye levels of size and even though you can group them in threes you probably have more like 4 or 5 photos on the same shelf. Keep things simple and interesting to the eye is the focus.
So I used a large fern plant which has soft natural texture in a terra cotta pot, One family wooden photo frame, a lamp and a candle. If you look close you can see the lamp, candle and photo are grouped together to make 3 and the plant is alone to make 1. It’s visually more appealing to the eye to see groups of things rather than lots of things scattered around. You lose the focal of the whole vignette. Just trust me.

I love the vintage tobacco baskets hanging above because the also add a visual interest. So many different textures married into one vignette . Glass, wood, nature, and wax.

The reason why I said size is because it keeps your eyes moving. So the top of the plant to the top of the frame to the top of lamp to the top of the baskets. Keeps visual interest on your eye with out making it looking clutter. Well that’s all and I hope this was usefull to some!!
